Dare County will be applying for another FEMA HMGP Elevation Project for Un-incorporated Full Time Permanent Residents [more]

Interfaith Community Outreach, in coordination with the Dare County Long Term Disaster Recovery Committee, is providing outreach to qualified victims of Hurricane Irene. The disaster related outreach is similar in nature to what is provided to qualified families who are facing a temporary emergency crisis. It may consist of financial assistance and/or referral to other community agencies that may be better able to provide necessary assistance, including assistance in restoring family residences to habitable condition. Please call (252) 480-0070, Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 10:00 AM - 2:00 PM to talk to a volunteer who can assist you.

Notice for Property Owners Concerning Unrepaired Storm Damage: If your home or business was damaged or destroyed during Hurricane Irene and repairs were not made before January 1, please contact the Dare County Appraisal Department at (252) 475-5940 or (252) 475-5936. Once all information is gathered, it will be determined if an appraiser needs to visit the property. The property assessment for 2012 may be adjusted, depending on the type of damage.

  • Board of Commissioners Make Changes in the Assessment Financing for the Roanoke Island Water Expansion Project

Following a public hearing on the Roanoke Island Water Expansion Project, the Dare County Board of Commissioners voted on November 21, 2011 to make changes to the assessment financing in response to concerns identified by Roanoke Island residents. The Board of Commissioners voted unanimously to extend the financing of the $1,700 assessment owed by all property owners whose lots will be eligible to receive water service as part of the expansion project. The assessment financing was extended from seven years to ten years. The usual five percent interest rate for assessment financing was eliminated by the Board of Commissioners after hearing public comments in an effort to help those with financial hardships. The Board of Commissioners also extended the deadline to June 30, 2012 for customers to sign-on to be connected to the water system without paying the full impact fee normally associated with connecting a property to a water system.
