The Dare County Department of Social Services provides a broad array of economic and social services aimed at promoting and strengthening family stability and integrity; to enhance the protection and care of children and dependent adults; and to assist all citizens in achieving their highest level of independence. Major services include Work First, Medicaid, Food Stamps, Adult & Child Protective Services, Adult Care: Home Monitoring, Complaint Investigations, Community Alternatives Program for Disabled Adults, Adoption Services, Foster Care, Day Care, Emergency Services, and In-home Aide Services, Protective Payee Services, Special Assistance In-Home Program, Certified Nurse Aides and State/County Special Assistance. Dare County Board of Social Services establishes the county social services policy, selects director and advises the department. Board also helps along with the director on the planning of budget.
